Hi! My name is Oscar! I’m about 7 years old and was surrendered to Animal Nation from a family who really did love me — but I knew there was more to life than being a house pig. And so, I started acting out. I had a human sibling who I bit and shared a home with a dog I wasn’t too fond of so I attacked him too. I also pulled out drywall, wiring, and even ripped up the hardwood floors! And so I ended up at Animal Nation, where I get to sleep inside a warm cozy bed, but still get to be outside all day. You can find me getting into things I shouldn’t, complaining when Olive is on my side of the bed, and breaking through fencing to say hi to the neighbors. I don’t see what the problem is! I’m just being a pig!

Hi! My name is Zelda! I’ve lived at Animal Nation for six years, but I just turned 11 recently! I was an unwanted owner surrender from Staten Island, NY! I know how to kiss, sit, and twirl — but only if you have a treat in hand and a thick NY accent. You can find me at the farm being incredibly cute so you give me a snack!

Hi! My name is Jessie! I was a stray on the streets in Stanford, CT until the police started chasing me around town. Once they were finally able to rescue me, they had nowhere else for me to go but to the dog pound. I was so terrified and sad that I couldn’t even eat. Everyone could see on my face how depressed I was. Luckily they called Animal Nation who agreed to continue to stray hold at their farm sanctuary. Also lucky for me, no one ever claimed me, and so I became a permanent member of the Animal Nation Family!

Hi! I’m Olive! I’m 13 and one of the oldest pigs at Animal Nation. I was surrendered 3 years ago after living 9 years all by myself in an outdoor shed. The family who purchased me as a little piglet for their kids eventually grew bored of me and no longer cared for me properly. I had nothing to do all day, no friends to keep me company, and was fed a really horrible diet. I became depressed, and so overweight I could barely walk. Finally, a friend of my previous owners called Animal Nation for help. Not even my own family cared enough about me to call for help. The amazing volunteers at Animal Nation worked with me every single day to gain confidence, mobility, and lose weight. I quickly became one of their hardest rehabilitation cases, but they never gave up on me. I made them cry tears of sadness, until they eventually could cry tears of joy because I persevered and now live an amazing life. You’ll find me at the farm sunbathing, often blocking the door. And yes, you’ll have to step over me :)

Hi! I’m Milo! I’m really a simple pig. I don’t require much — just minimal human contact and my basic needs met! But if any of those other pigs get too close, or try to steal my snacks, you better believe I’ll bite them in the butt (especially you, Jessie!) I was surrendered to Animal Nation after Pace’s farm campus shut down during the COVID pandemic. I now get to live my life in peace and enjoy my days relaxing, foraging, and digging up the barnyard!

Hi! I’m Leroy! I was yet another failed indoor house pet. As a large pig I required space, enrichment, and access to lots of land! I am about 15 and the oldest pig at Animal Nation. My best friend, Nellie Rose, passed away a little over a year ago due to cancer, which was a heavy hit to my heart. Luckily, I still have lots of other pig friends here at the sanctuary. You can find me cuddled up deep in the comforters during the winter, and enjoying the mud in the summer!
